Bought an elliptical

Bought an elliptical

I bought a used elliptical machine from a young couple.  I looked at it last week and today I picked it up with my brother, Sam.  Sam, thanks a million!  I wouldn’t of been able to get this thing without your help.  Thank you!

The elliptical is really cool.  Its a Nordic Track cx985.  Its all black (which I like very much) and, it kicks butt!  I did a 45 minute workout on it today while I watched Dawn of the Dead.

At the end of the 45 minutes, I had ellipticized 2.07 miles on a ramp of 10 and a resistance of 3.  And, my total calorie burn was 750.  Not bad.  My plan is to exercise daily on this contraption without neglecting the running or biking.

I like the built in fan

Its been so stinking cold the last couple of weeks that I just haven’t wanted to exercise outdoors but I’m itching big time.  Tomorrow, I think I need to get out there and run!  I miss running way too much.

Now that the Winter quarter has started at Scad I am back on my regular schedule of working from 7am to 4pm.  So, that’s nice because when i leave work I still have a little over an hour of daylight.  Tomorrow, after work, I’ll run a few miles at Daffin park and then hit the Y.  I’ll do 3 laps around daffin park which will be 3.5 miles and, I will use my conventional running shoes for this run.

I’m going to slowly ease my way into the vibram 5 fingers.  I definitely learned my lesson about jumping too quick into the five fingers.  With these shoes, you have to take your time getting your legs accustomed to running with the fiver fingers.  I love my five fingers.  I’m wearing them right now and, have worn them all day.  My mother doesn’t like them.  She thinks they look hideous.   She told me that this morning when I stopped by their home.  When I walked into their home she immediately noticed them and said with a very heavy spanish accent, “you are wearing those ugly shoes?”!  I said, yeah, they’re great.  She scoffed and hobbled back into the kitchen to continue cooking bacalao a la vizcaina.  If you have never had this dish, oh, are you missing out!  If you have had it before, you are living!

My mother cooks bacalao a la vizcaina better than anyone else that I know of.  I fear though, that my mother will take her amazing recipe to the grave with her.  You see, today I asked her for the recipe and she abruptly said, “no”, in her thick accent.  I asked her why and she scoffed at me again.  I asked her if she was going to take this recipe with her to the grave and in her special, heavily accented way said, “yes!” which sounded more like “jez!”  I said ok.  I’ll take her some flowers next week.  That’ll soften her up.  It always does..;)

Well, that’s about it I guess.

I do have a special treat for you today.  Since its been so long since I’ve done a wildlife inventory I’ve decided to treat you to a couple of pictures of my cat, Texas, that I took this evening.

Texas in a grocery bag

That’s a funny picture isn’t?  I don’t know what she was doing in that bag but as I was talking on the phone I saw her on the dinner table and I couldn’t resist taking the picture.  I told the person I was talking to to hold on a sec as I photograph my cat looking kind of cute.

Here’s another one…

Strange Texas

Yes, she’s a strange one.  It seems every creature in my home is strange.  Why Texas suddenly decided to stare at the ceiling I do not know but she looks cool.  Actually, she looks like she’s about to get blasted out of that bag like someone out of a cannon in a circus, doesn’t it?

Any way, these pictures are kind of to make up for the lack of wildlife inventory from my blogs.

Thank you for taking the time to read my running blog.

Later.

peace,

dh
