New Running Shoes and Running Camera

new camera and new running shoes. I'm stylin...

Yesterday I did a 3.8 mile run with my new running shoes (Nike Free Run+2) and new running camera (Panasonic Lumix dmc-ts10).  I felt like a brand new runner.  It was total awesomeness…that is until my stomach became upset and threatened a hissy fit unless I slowed down.  Unfortunately, I was weak and gave in to my stupid stomach’s childish behavior and slowed down.  The stomach settled down.  Had my stomach behaved during the run I think I would have had one of the most perfect runs in all human history.  Instead, I had to pray that I would make it to the Ymca’s restroom asap without a mishap.

my new nike free run+2. they are grey with green shoe laces.

The Nike Free Run+2 are awesome running shoes.  They seem to be that perfect balance between minimalist running shoe and whatever you want to call the other side – conventional running, heel-landing designed shoe?  That sounds scientific – so, I’ll stick with it.  I don’t know.

Seriously, the shoe is nicely balanced.  It has just the right amount of cushioning and thickness of sole.  My feet felt comfortably snug in the shoes.  The shoes are very light.  Running in Nike free run+2 was like running in vff’s but without the individual toe thing and with a thicker sole.  I only ran 3.8 miles in them but I already like them a lot.  I cannot wait to run some serious distance on them.  I like my old Mizuno Wave Runners but this Nike shoe may become my shoe of choice.  Yes, even supplanting my beloved bikilas.  I totally dig the Nike free run+2.  I don’t like the name of the shoe, though.  “Free Run+2″  – that name is just not easy nor catchy to say.  It doesn’t just roll off your tongue like say, “Mizuno Wave Runner” does.  “Free Run+2″ kind of comes out of your mouth like a cough or a choke…”Free Run plus <COUGH! COUGH! (CAN’T BREATHE!)>…2″.   So, the name is not catchy but I still like the shoes.

Now, I’m not going to give up on my bikilas but I am definitely going to retire my Mizunos.  As of today, my Mizunos are just hanging out and/or yard work shoes.  I’m sorry Mizuno Wave Runner.  You were good but Nike Free run+2 is better (even though the name isn’t catchy).

here's the front of the lumix camera in my hand, in the parking lot of the island's ymca after the 3.8 mile run. it comes with this nifty silicon protective case. it's nice.

The big question is how will they handle a long run?  I don’t know but I’m going to test them out this weekend.  So, stick around and I’ll give you my two cents worth on these super slick, lightweight shoes.

I also received my new running camera that I ordered from newegg.com, the Panasonic Lumix dmc-ts10.  It’s a sweet camera.  It’s compact and lightweight.  It’s waterproof to 10 feet underwater and shock proof up to a five foot fall…that’s what the advertisement says and, I believed it enough and bought it.  It feels comfortable in the palm of my hand and I could barely feel it’s weight as I ran with it during yesterday’s run.

The camera also comes with a silicon protective case that’s more for keeping sand away from the moving parts and to prevent scratches on the body than it is for shielding against a fall.  It takes nice pictures and the menu options are intuitive and easy to use.  I haven’t even read the manual and I’ve already figured out how to access and use all of it’s features.  It also does hd video 720p and is a 14 mega pixel.  Not bad for $164.00!  The zoom is 4x which is decent for my purposes – running with camera.  My American Indian name is “Runs with Camera” unlike “Dances with Wolves”.

Yesterday’s run was on Whitemarsh Island around the Island’s Ymca area.  I started on the Island’s Y trail and connected with the Whitemarsh trail and followed that until it ended and then caught Stonebridge drive and followed that until it became MapMaker.  Eventually, I caught Whitemarsh Island road and took that to a school’s parking lot and behind the police station where I reconnected with the Island’s Y trail and followed that until I reached the starting point of my run.

Had my stomach behaved better I believe this run would have been epic.  Instead, my run ended in the men’s restroom in the Ymca…Not exactly a place to end an epic story, eh?  It happens, just like my niece, Grace, is fond of saying.
