Picture of the Day: Isaiah 40:31 on my Red Bikilas

…but those who hope in the Lord will renew their strength.  They will soar on wings like eagles; they will run and not grow weary…

Isaiah 40:31

This is the Picture of the Day.  All of my running shoes now have Isaiah 40:31 written on them.  Why?  Because it’s a wonderful scripture and incredibly inspiring in more ways than one.  In this case the inspiration is for running.  In another case, it’s for staying strong in the Faith.

It is fitting that the first shoes that I wrote Isaiah 40:31 on are my red bikilas because these shoes revolutionized the way I now run and, my fastest half marathon to date has been with these red bikilas – 1:33:57.  That was the Tybee 1/2 marathon 2011.  Ok, some of you run a heck of a lot faster but, that’s fast for me. ;)

So, in a way I soared on wings like an eagles and ran and didn’t get very weary.  And, God renewed my strength.

So, there you have it, the picture of the day and all that stuff.

Many thanks for stopping by.

All the very best to you and yours.

peace,

dh

Hi there! I just wanted to share with you that I was encouraged by this! I actually did an image search for “soar eagle wings” and came across your fivefingers. I’m designing a tattoo that incorporates several scriptures to cover up the tattoo that I got on my back when I was 17 and the eagle imagery from Isaiah 40 is one of them. As a Christ follower, a runner, and a barefoot enthusiast, you putting the scripture on your bikilas was a blessing.

I’m actually running my first half marathon tomorrow (http://stlukeshalfmarathon.com/). My initial goal was to be between 1:50-2 hours, but as I did lots of traveling interviewing in March, then being offered a job 3 hours away, packing and moving within 2 weeks, then starting the new job, training basically ceased. So this is going to be an ugly race, but I know it will still be lots of fun and I’m expecting to be both humbled and encouraged during it. I’m cheating on my ffs and running in my vivobarefoot shoes though. Over the winter I got too cold running in ffs and bought my first pair of vivos so I could wear wool socks with them. :)

Thanks for this. God is good! Peace and grace to you.
