good thing I was running with camera in hand or I would not have gotten this shot. It's a cool picture, is it not? I think it is.
My 2 a-days are not working out, I’m afraid. Every morning I’ve been busy and haven’t had the opportunity to run. This whole week, I’ve had an important task to take care of every morning. I’m talking from taking my dad to the hospital for a procedure to having my taxes done to taking Gypsy to the dog park so he can have a little dog time with his kind. My afternoon yard work tasks have run late each day. Finally, I get out to run around 4pm. That’s been the case this whole week…not very different from my regular at work week.
Wednesday, I ran 7.25 miles at and around the rails to trails. I ran the bull river bridge. I then hit the zombie trail and finished up the run on the rtt. It was nice. I felt strong the whole time which was a major relief because allergies are kicking my butt badly. That’s another thing going on this week – bad allergies! My allergies were so bad on Tuesday that I could not run because I could not stop sneezing all day. My nose was running and I felt very weak. At least, my nose got to exercise on Tuesday. But on Wednesday, I seem to have had an allergy reprieve and ran hard and felt great.
Thursday’s run was a different story. Thursday, I felt the same way I did on Tuesday but made myself run anyway. I could not run fast nor far, though. My run was only 4.25 miles with every step a painful one. I felt discomfort deep down in my joints as I ran. And, the joint discomfort was not simply below my waist. It was also in my arms and neck. I felt lethargic the entire run. And, the lymph nodes under my ears were swollen hard. I had to sneeze about a thousand times after the run and blow my nose many more times than that.
Having allergy problems can suck big time, no doubt. My older brother also has allergy problems during the spring and the way he deals with it is by running indoors on a treadmill. God bless him for having the drive and discipline to do long runs on a treadmill. I haven’t gotten there yet. I love running outdoors. Part of the therapeutic power of running for me is running outside with all of the splendor of nature’s sounds, sights and smells. I haven’t come close to that experience yet with a treadmill run and doubt that will ever happen unless I take a treadmill to the rails to trails and run on it out there. I don’t see that happening any time soon, though.
We just have a few more weeks of this annoying tree and plant pollen stuff and then I’ll be allergy free! I’ll then have to deal with a completely different monster – low country summer heat. I’ll take the heat, though, over the allergy probs. How about you, – any allergy probs slowing down your running.
- run log
- total miles on grey bikilas: 127.15
- total real miles for 2012: 256.71
- total treadmill miles for 2012: 41.41
- yesterday, there was no Gypsy walk because we went to the dog park instead. Gypsy had a great time there peeing on every tree and then refereeing the pack of dogs that were playing. It was actually quite funny watching Gypsy run around this playful pack barking at them. He never would join the play time, though. Funny dog.
