while running through Thunderbolt I came across this little light house and thought it was worth taking a picture of

Last Monday, I officially began my Delirium 24 hour race training.  Since then, I’ve logged 36.12 miles for the week.  That’s fine for the first week of training but I’m going to have to crank up the mileage after next Saturday’s Rock n Roll Savannah half-marathon.  Sunday’s run was 15.12 painful miles.  My feet are still holding me back and that’s not good.

By the time I hit 7.15 miles the ball of my right foot was becoming annoyingly uncomfortable.  By the 10 mile mark my left foot joined in the chorus of discomfort.  Now, not only were my feet hurting but my stomach began to churn uncomfortably around mile three.  The discomfort became so great that I quickly changed my projected running route and bee-lined it down Johnny Mercer Blvd and headed straight to the Island’s Y.  I just barely made it to the Y and thanked God the entire time for helping me keep from firing off a blast of nastiness into my running shorts!  It was a close call!

I left the Y and headed down the Whitemarsh Island Preservation trail until it dumped me onto Bryan Woods road.  I shot across highway 80 and followed Penrose road until it ended at highway 80 and headed west.  I momentarily stopped at a convenience store and dealt more with stomach issues and then continued the run back to Thunderbolt.  By the time I had crossed the Thunderbolt bridge for the second time during Sunday’s run either I had toughened up or I got used to the discomfort of my feet because I seemed to deal better with them.  Upon reaching the end of the Thunderbolt bridge I took a left onto River drive and ventured deep into the southern part of Thunderbolt.  Finally I came back around crossed highway 80 again and began my trek home, only to suddenly divert my trip into Bonaventure cemetery where I cranked out another mile before deciding that going home was the prudent thing to do since my feet were now on fire and my stomach felt like hurricane Sandy was inside of it wreaking all kinds of havoc.  By the time I made it home I bee-lined it to the bathroom without saying hello to Mr. Gypsy who was anxiously awaiting me.  I’m a bad dog owner!

Ten minutes later, I hobbled out of the bathroom and rightfully paid Mr. Gypsy some attention.

this is the map of my 15.13 mile run today.

Here is a picture of the young lady (Samantha) that is fighting cancer. She is pictured with her boyfriend, Stu Schwartz, who happens to be a good friend of mine.

Please remember that my goal for the Delirium 24 hour race is to run 100 miles for Samantha Shanks who is fighting cancer and is a good friend mine’s girlfriend.  I’m asking people to please donate to her page, Sam’s Fight Against Cancer, on youcaring.com.  I have set up a facebook page called, Going the distance for Stu’s girlfriend.  The page links back to her youcaring.com page.  Please visit the page and please help this young lady out in her fight against cancer.

I’m in the process of starting a prayer flag chain for Sam Shanks.  I’ll dicuss that on tomorrow’s blog in detail.  So, please come back tomorrow for that.  It’s going to be cool.

Thanks for stopping by.

All the best to you and yours.

peace,

dh
