The idea for the prayer flag project came one day at the end of May, beginning of June as I was running. The idea behind the prayer flag project was one where people of different faiths can come together and lift up prayers symbolized by flags. It does not matter whether you are Christian, Jewish, Buddhist, Muslim, Hindu -we all share this world with all its hopes and all its sorrows. And, we all could use prayer. This planet needs prayer.
With the prayer flag project my hope is that we can put aside our differences and lift up prayers (on flags) in our own unique ways for those we love and for that which is important to each of us.
Each prayer flag lifted is a hope, a desire, a need, a cry out.
I am placing the flags at the end of the Western section of the Rails to Trails in Savannah, Ga.
The prayer flag colors represented are:
* Blue (symbolizing sky/space)
* White (symbolizing air/wind)
* Red (symbolizing fire)
* Green (symbolizing water)
* Yellow (symbolizing earth)
If you would like a prayer flag, contact me and I’ll either send you a flag or you can tell me what you want on the flag and on what color. Your flag will be hung along with the others and I will photograph the flags every time new ones are added. The photographs will be on fan page on Facebook called Prayer Flag Project.
Thanks.

There are now 90 prayer flags at the end of the rails! There are many needs to be met. There are many people grieving for lost loved ones and hoping and hoping for a miracle. The prayer flag project is beginning to show that. There’s a hurting world out there. We all need prayers. We all need people to care for and to care for us.
Shoot me an email if you want a prayer flag hung or simply make a comment.
Thanks.

PS: I had a pretty decent time running out to the flags and back. My time was :41:53:51 for 5.57 miles.

Ok, there are now 100 prayer flags as of 7/01/2009. Its exciting to see the flags increase and its so fullfilling that this project is touching the hearts of so many. I’ve now been been overwhelmed by the positive responses to this. I had to buy more fabric because I completely ran out of the first batch. I ended up buying 3 yards of each color. It was kind of pricey but so worth it.
Just about every day, someone asks for more flags. It is so very cool.
Again, please do not hesitate to hit me up on some prayer flags. I’ll snail mail them to you at no cost but do expect you to pay for the return postage. Or, you can let me know if you want me to write something on a flag and what color.

Here’s another picture I took yesterday while I was at the end of the rails to trails in good old Savannah, Ga.
I think I’m going to start a new thread next time when updating the prayer flag project status. This particular thread is getting way too long. So, next time expect a new blog entry for the prayer flag project thing.
I hope you all have a very happy and safe 4th. Enjoy your family and friends. Please don’t blow your hands off firing off fireworks. And please, don’t shoot bottle rockets out of the crack of butt -that’s just not a good idea.
Ok, Adios, Shalom, and later gator.
