Ledesma Sports Medicine Rails to Trails Ultra 2014
The Rails to Trails Ultra is coming back in 2014!
The race will take place at the same location as last year, Ft. Pulaski and the Rails to Trails in Savannah, on Saturday, January 11, 2014.
A modification to the course had to be made due to the severe erosion of the trail. So, this year's 25k and 50k will not cover much of the McQueen's Island Historical Trail. The R2T Ultra will encompass the entire McQueen's Island Trail once the trail is restored.
The LSM R2T Start/Finish line is still in Ft. Pulaski National Monument at the pine forested picnic area.
The 2013 inaugural Ledesma Sports Medicine Rails to Trails Ultra was a huge success raising $10,000 for the restoration efforts of the McQueen's Island trail (RTT). So many thanks to runners like you! Let's make it happen again!
So, kick off 2014 the right way by cranking out lots of miles on this beautiful flat fast coastal run! The 2014 race has the same goal as before to mesh our appetite for distance running with while raising Funding and Awareness for the Restoration and Maintenance of the severely eroded conditions on parts of the Historic Rails to Trails, a six mile converted Rails To Trail (Georgia's first) which runs parallel to Tybee Road Highway 80 East on McQueen's Island. This trail was not only Georgia's First Rails To Trail conversion, but was also instrumental to Ft. Pulaski during The Civil War, boasting the site of Battery Hamilton.
Awards will be given to the First Place Female and Male of each race: 5k, 10k, 25k, 50k.
Medals will be given to All Finishers of the 50k, 25k, 10k, 5k races. We make one request though, - Run Hard, Run Strong for which ever event you go after!
Please join Run 4 a Reason and help save our Rails to Trails.

The McQueen's Island Historical trail has suffered great erosion lately. For this reason we have unfortunately had to modify the course because parts of the trail are now impassable and Chatham County has closed off these sections of the trail. Once the trail is restored the Rails to Trails Ultra will return to it's original course spanning the entire McQueen's Island trail.
