Yesterday, my feet were still tender from this past Saturday’s run but the difference between the red worn-down bikilas and the new and blue bikilas was markedly significant. As much as I love Vibram 5 fingers the company is going to have to figure out how to make a minimalist shoe that can withstand the heat coming off of the street during summer runs and, how to keep them from wearing out so fast. [...]

Yesterday’s run was the first using my blue bikilas. I retired the red bikilas 8 miles short of 500 without regret. The soles of my red bikilas are severely worn and it was impacting my ability to run and train. Running on hot days was becoming very painful because the heat coming off the asphalt on the street would bake my feet because the soles of the red bikilas had gotten so thin from wear. And, the heat coming off of highway 80 was especially bad because there is no shade from the sun on that long road. The only way I could alleviate the discomfort of my feet when running on hot days was to run on the white stripe that runs alongside the roads.

492 miles is not a lot of miles on a running shoe, in my opinion.

Vibram can do better. I have confidence in them.

Last Saturday night there was a pretty severe storm in the Savannah area. It knocked out power all over the city and trees were getting toppled like dominoes. I kept hearing reports that Wilmington/Whitemarsh Island were slammed pretty bad. Yesterday’s run around Whitemarsh proved those report’s accuracy. The picture above of a downed tree on the Whitemarsh island trail is just of one tree that I stopped to photograph. There were about five other trees down on and along the trail.

I’m looking into buying a garmin watch with gps and heart-rate monitor. The imapmyrun app failed again during yesterday’s run. Four miles into the run it stopped running. This is getting to be quite annoying. A google search regarding this problem came up with many similar complaints and no solutions.

I’m going to use the imapmyrun app for this run and hope that it does what it’s supposed to do. If it fails me again it will only be pushing me away from it and toward a better running mapping device. Imapmyrun, do not fail me, please! I really like you but you are interfering with my training instead of being a part of my training. Please get your act together.

Thank you so much for stopping by.

All the very best to you and yours.

I’m off for a run!

peace,
