Here’s a slide show of the prayer flag project which is located in the old Roberd’s Dairy Farm in Savannah, Georgia. This particular prayer flag project started as the prayer flag annex. The original prayer flag project is at the end of the rails to trails in Savannah.

I stopped counting prayer flags at the pfp that’s at the rails to trails when it reached 500 prayer flags. The flags at the rtt are still there but they are in desperate need of maintenance. The rtt prayer flag project started in the summer of 2009.

The prayer flag annex was started around the beginning of 2010. The prayer flag annex eventually became known as the prayer flag project in the Dairy farm. The last count I did at the dairy farm pfp was 750 prayer flags. The prayer flags at the dairy farm are weather beaten as they are more exposed to the elements.

To me, the prayer flags at the dairy farm are more touching and the location where they are at the df is more magical and hallow. Almost every day I go to the prayer flags at the dairy farm and maintain them. When there is no more rope to clip prayers to I’ll string more rope. I also provide blank prayer flags for who ever wants them. I’ll mail them to who ever asks me for them at my cost. I buy the fabric at Jo-Ann’s Fabrics on Eisenhower. I go there so often to buy fabric that the ladies that work there know me and know what fabric and colors I’m going to purchase. It’s pretty funny.

these are the colors i’m using for the flags. each flag is 7″x7″
What the colors represent:
* Blue (symbolizing sky/space)
* White (symbolizing air/wind)
* Red (symbolizing fire)
* Green (symbolizing water)
* Yellow (symbolizing earth)

Any way, if you want some blank prayer flags just leave a comment at the end of this blog entry and we’ll go from there.

The dairy farm is a very special place and with the prayer flag project there it becomes magical, a refuge, a place of rest for the soul.

Thanks for stopping by.

Any way, Mr. Gypsy and I spent about an hour out there trying to make the prayer flags look better so that they may blow better in the wind. Today was a very windy days as the video I made shows.

As of today, April 2, 2011, there are 750 prayer flags at the prayer flag project in the dairy farm. That’s a lot of prayer flags. I went ahead and strung up another 50 feet of rope for new prayer flags.

Maine House of Representatives

As you may know, I have prayer flags for every member of the Senate and I’m in the process of putting up prayer flags for all of the House of Representatives. The way I’ve done it is I do one blanket prayer for each state and add the names of each senator of that state on the flag. I do the same for the House of Representatives. All fifty states senators are done and, 27 states of the House of Representatives are done.

Senate: Michigan

Hey, if you want a prayer set out for you at the dairy farm prayer flag project shoot me an email. I can write on a prayer flag whatever prayer you would like or, I can send you blank prayer flags and you fill them out and either hang them yourself or send them back to me and I’ll hang them for you and email you pictures of your prayer flags hanging at the dairy farm. I’ve had people contact me from different states and I’ve snail-mailed blank prayer flags to them and they have sent them back to me and I’ve hung them at the dairy farm. Actually, the picture at the very top contains prayer flags that were sent to me from some one that lives in Colorado. The only cost to you is for the postage when you send the flags back to me. I cover the cost of the fabric and the postage getting the flags to you. What’s the catch you may wonder? There’s no catch. I feel strongly convicted to do the prayer flag project and maintain it. So, if you want blank prayer flags or want a prayer written on a flag and hung at the dairy farm prayer flag project in Savannah, Georgia then, shoot me an email at dlh14255@gmail.com. That’s it.

The prayer flag project is also on Facebook: Prayer Flag Project

And, a late afternoon walk at the dairy farm (my second walk at the df today) yielded the opportunity to see a snake, a corn snake! How cool is that? Anyway, here’s a little video of the man vs snake vs dog ordeal today at the dairy farm. That is the second corn snake I’ve seen at the dairy farm this year. And, running in this chilly weather is something I really do not like. So, all the fun I can make of a chilly run the better for me. It’s true that usually a mile and a half into a run I’m feeling pretty warm but that is not the point. Running in the cold just sucks – gloves, hat, lots of layered clothing, perspiration drenched clothing…not fun. And, those first ten minutes of a run really feel like a cold hell to me especially if we’re having windy conditions -like we had today. Nevertheless, I enjoyed the run just because I just love running – even, if its cold. But, having a camera to capture a moment during [...]

But, having a camera to capture a moment during a run is just so much fun. You should try it one day.

about to go through the "portal"

So, what all did I see during my run? Well, let me start by telling you where I ran first. I started the run in front of my house and ran out to Bonaventure road, following it into Bonaventure cemetery. Believe it or not, Bonaventure cemetery was decorated a bit festive for the holiday season. There are wreaths at the two main entrances to the cemetery and there were ribbons around some of the graves. I’ve never seen a cemetery decorated for the holidays. Interesting indeed…to me. Well, this is Savannah. And, those of you familiar with Savannah know that this is a quarky little town. If cemeteries are going to be decorated for the Christmas holidays anywhere in the world its gonna be in Savannah.

the "portal" behind me in the bonaventure cemetery

At Bonaventure cemetery, I followed my tradition of running through the “portal”. I call this huge doorway monument at the eastern end of the Bonaventure cemetery the “portal” because, it looks like a portal. Every time I run through the “portal” I feel that I’m being transformed into another realm or into a “new creation” as the New Testament says about becoming a’”new creature in Christ’. Whatever the case, it’s cool to me to imagine a different me, a better me, at the other side of the “portal”. Perhaps, one day I will run through that “portal” and will end up either on a planet inhabited by beautiful naked women wearing vff’s and millions of pterodactyls flying overhead. Oh, and Starbucks coffee shops in every home. That would be so great!

wood storks on the side of the road just outside of the bonaventure cemetery

Well, when I ran out of the Bonaventure cemetery I ran to the Dairy Farm where I saw millions of pelicans and great egrets and wood storks hanging around the big creek running adjacent to the Bonaventure cemetery grounds. It was cool. I followed the creek for about 80 yards only to have to turn around because the incoming tide washed over the trail. I ran back to the main trail at the df and followed it to the big marsh clearing and then looped back on another trail that led me to the big pasture where I saw the Christmas tree we decorated a few weeks ago. I then ran back up Tennessee to my house.

the christmas tree in the dairy farm

And, as I wrap up this blog entry Mr. Gypsy lays at my feet fast asleep. Coffee is brewing with its enticing aroma beckoning me. So, I’m off for coffee, a shower and a venture to the other side of town where my parents are.

the flying pelicans at the dairy farm

Thanks for taking the time to read my running blog.

All the best to you and yours.

Some friends and I got together this past Sunday and decorated the lone pine tree in the middle of the pasture at the dairy farm. We had two fire pit going, hot cider, Christmas music rocking, cookies and brownies. As the night wore on we began to spike the hot cider with Wild Turkey to help warm things up some more. It was loads of fun. We definitely brought in the Holiday Season with some cheer. If you get a chance stop by the dairy farm and check out the tree. If you have extra tree ornaments laying about bring em along and hang them on the tree at the farm. Hope you all are having a happy holiday season. If not, stop by the dairy farm and walk around a bit. a walk out there is bound to cheer you up. Also, there is a section at the dairy farm where we hang prayer flags. Its on the far back section of the farm near where the Greenwich cemetery is. If you want some blank prayer flags shoot me an email. If you want a prayer flag put up for you shoot me an email. My email is dlh14255@gmail.com.
