I saw this huge turkey while running my hood today. Happy Thanksgiving!

Today’s run almost did not happen.  I had threatened to run all day today but my body was aching from helping a friend move a bunch of furniture around her house yesterday evening.  I even hurt my knee while helping move a big filing cabinet.  So, today I was not sure if I should run or not.  In the end, though, the temperature was so nice and the urge to run was too great.  So, run, I did.  I ran 6.36 miles through my hood.  It was a beautiful run with a temperature of 73 degrees and humidity at 49%.

I ran out my front door, heading up Tennessee and then caught a right on Georgia Ave.  Georgia Ave took me to Bonaventure St. and that into Bonaventure cemetery.  I ran around Bonaventure, not forgetting to go through the “portal”.  I love Bonaventure cemetery.  It’s such a beautiful cemetery.  And now, with the holidays upon us every statue in the cemetery has a Santa hat and lots of candy canes hanging from their wings and swords.  It makes the cemetery feel so festive.   Just kidding.  Bonaventure cemetery is truly beautiful but I made up all that stuff about Santa hats and candy canes.

From Bonaventure cemetery I ran to the Wilmington River pier and then ran the Thunderbolt Bridge and on my return followed Victory Drive to Starbucks on Victory and Skidaway.  I then worked my way home.

On my front steps I took a picture of one of my toes that popped out of my right red bikila.  These red bikilas of mine may very well be on their last foot.  Being who I am, I believe in squeezing blood out of a turnip.  So, I’ll try to get a few more miles out of them.  What say, we go for 700 miles on these suckers?  Hey, they’ve already logged 629 miles.  Getting close!

Wildlife inventory:

• 2 dogs
• 1 cat
• a bunch of black birds in the trees above me when running through Fennel Street.
• As I crossed the Thunderbolt bridge I saw 6 large white birds flying high above me.  I couldn’t tell if they were great egrets or snowy egrets…so, you choose.
• 1 humongous turkey!  Biggest one I’ve ever seen!  I even got a picture of it!

So, tomorrow being Thanksgiving day, I have a lot to be thankful for.  Most of my family will be in town.  So, that makes me very happy.  Unfortunately, my oldest brother and his family could not make it down this year.  Next year, hopefully, I’ll see them.

Thanksgiving dinner and stuff is not until 4:00pm.  So, some time in the morning I’m going to squeeze out a 5 to 6 miler.  As I run through the city I will be tossing frozen turkeys to everyone around.  So, be out there tomorrow and catch the frozen turkey I hurl at you as i run a 7 minute mile!
